Name i.d. just gets a candidate in the ballgame; Brand Reputation – measuring favorable versus unfavorable overall impressions of candidates – is where brand differentiation becomes more recognizable.
Candidates generally fall into three tiers. Over 80 percent have “very favorable” or “somewhat favorable” impressions of Hillary Clinton and John Edwards. Barack Obama and Al Gore are viewed favorably by 78 and 67 percent respectively, with no other candidate topping 36 percent.
When we examine reputation more closely by looking at net scores, the viable field of candidates narrows considerably, with Clinton, Edwards and Obama emerging as the top tier candidates. Clinton and Edwards have net positive scores of 70, followed by Obama at 65 percent. Gore falls to 41 percent, with every other candidate trailing far behind.
